3 questions to ask yourself when you are going through a difficult time.

“May you be strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you many have great endurance and patience”. Colossians 1:11

Have you ever been through a difficult time that felt like it lasted forever, and you weren’t sure if you were ever going to come out of it?

Maybe you’ve had a hard time with someone in your workplace, maybe you lost someone close to you, maybe you are finding it hard with facing changes in your family or friendships.

We all go through different seasons of life, but its important to know that every season of life has a purpose to it, and that as you face difficult things, it can actually produce resilience, perseverance and patience.

Here are 3 questions to ask yourself when you face something difficult, that will help you get through it!

1.  What can I learn from this?

The best thing to do when you find yourself facing a challenge is to realize that there is something you can learn from it. There’s an opportunity for you to develop more inner strength, to grow, and to become more compassionate towards others who have faced the same thing. I am thankful for all the things that I have been through in my life, as they have taught me how to build a deep internal strength, that gives me confidence that whatever I go through, I will come out the other side stronger, wiser and better.

2.  What mindsets do I need to build or strengthen during this time?

Building positive mindsets is a really important exercise to learn, if you want to be able to live a long, happy, sustainable life. Building a positive mindset is basically thinking positive, affirming thoughts, and meditating on those mindsets, until it becomes your automative way of thinking about things.

A positive mindset that I had to build was “I am strong, and I can get through anything”. As I build this positive mindset, it helped me build confidence that I could face anything that I was going through.

3.  How can I help others?

This is a great question to ask yourself when you are facing something hard. Its really easy to think about ourselves, especially if we are facing a challenge. Thinking of ways that you can be kind to others, helps you build an outward focus and this will bring your joy, because it feels good to do something nice for someone. You could bake some cupcakes for your neighbour, offer to take an elderly friend out for coffee, or volunteer at a local school or charity. I know that during difficult times I have tried to think of how I can help others and its been so helpful to take my mind off what I am going through and do something to help someone else.

So next time you go through a difficult time, ask yourself these 3 questions. Its will help you get through it much quicker and will help you see that there’s a purpose to what you are going through and that you are going to come out the other side stronger and wiser!

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
