How to receive God's love for you this Valentine's Day.
How to receive God’s love for you this Valentine’s Day!
This Friday is Valentine’s Day and it is a day that many people celebrate their love for each other.
This week I was thinking about God’s love and how it is the only unconditional love that I have experienced in my life, and how much God’s love has meant to me.
It easy to receive love by the way people around us, express their love for us. Sometimes it easy to give love in conditional ways. Sometimes we can even base our security and confidence of other people’s love for us.
Over the last few years, I have gone on a journey to discover and feel God’s love for me.
It hasn’t been easy. I experienced rejection in my adult life that made me think that people didn’t like me and rocked my confidence. I wanted to feel, receive and know God’s love for me. I realized that God made me, he loves me, he has a plan for my life, and his love for me is unconditional.
As I began to read more about God’s love for me, I started to experience a sense of security like I’ve never had before.
As I healed from the emotional wounds of rejection, I started to feel and receive God’s love.
Maybe you have experienced rejection from a friend, a boss, a college, a family member, or a coach. Maybe you have felt the sting of feeling left out from a friendship group, looked over for a job promotion and not picked for a sporting team. All of these things are hard to swallow and can leave you feeling unloved.
In life you are going to experience rejection. But what you can do is build your life and foundation on what God says about you and who he is to you, so when you experience rejection, you won’t be knocked over, because you will be secure in God’s love for you.
How do you receive God’s love?
"I will never leave you or forsake you" Joshua 1:5
Acceptance.
God’s love for you is unconditional, and just as you are today, he loves you. You need to accept God’s love. You don’t have to do anything or be anybody. Just be yourself.
Accept that God loves you when you don’t feel your best. Receiving God’s love is about letting go of earning love, and relaxing and just receiving it.
"I am convinced that nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 8:38-39
Wherever you are on your journey today to receive and know God’s love for you, I encourage you to find some bible verses about God’s love for you and meditate on them.
As you learn how much God loves you, your heart will be full of love and you will find it easy to love others.
As you receive God’s love for you, you will feel secure and confident going into your future, regardless how other people feel about you.
"Give thanks to the Lord. For he is good. His loves endures forever." Psalm 136:1
