How do I know God loves me?

How do I know God loves me?

“I have loved you with an everlasting love” Jeremiah 31:3

Have you been in love before? You know, the kind of love where you get butterflies in your tummy, and you think about them all the time, and you love being around them and being in their presence? Yes, me too. When my husband and I first started dating, we wrote letters to each other, and talked on the phone, and loved spending time together. I remember the first time he told me he loved me, my heart leapt for joy! I remember reading the letters he would send me and be so filled with joy and love for him.

That’s how God feels about you. His word is a love letter to you, he gets so excited about spending time with you and sharing how he feels about you, he wants you to know the plans he has for you.

Gods word is full of his expression of love for us.

I love seeing young couples who are in love and holding hands and talking, the smile on their faces and their body language towards each other, reminds me of how God feels when we engage with him.

“We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.” 1 John 4:16

God not only loves us, but he also there to protect us. You only protect something that is valuable, and because we are God’s children, he loves to look after us, guide us and protect us.

When we grasp the depth of God’s love for us, then it is easy for us to overflow with love for each other and ourselves. God wants us to know that we are loved and accepted by him and he wants us to love and accept ourselves.

If you think about a beautiful big tree, with an extensive and deep root system, that tree is solid, strong and regardless of the weather, the tree will not move. When we are grounded and have our roots system based on God’s love for us, we will not be moved by what is happening around us.

I have only had a revelation of God’s love for me in the last few years. I think because of the rejection I have encounted throughout my life from others, I thought that is how God thinks of me. I thought that he didn’t like me, and to be honest, sometimes, I didn’t like myself.

I thought that I was too loud, not pretty enough, too strong and not talented enough. I felt insecure in who I was and my future, because I didn’t know the perfect love of my Heavenly Father.

It wasn’t until I started to renew my mind with God’s word and his truth for me, that I started to feel God’s perfect love for me, and I had a revelation that I was accepted by him, just as I am today. This in turn, helped me to love and accept myself for who I am. The more I read in the Bible about what God says about me, the more I started to like myself. The less I cared about what other people said or thought about me. Lets face it. There is always going to be somebody that doesn’t like you. But if we know how much God loves us, and we can learn to love ourselves, then we won’t be swayed by the opinion’s of others.

Have you struggled to feel God’s love for you?

Do you love and accept yourself for who God made you to be?

The first step on your journey is to find passages in God’s word about his love for you, and who you are in Christ. As you meditate and renew your mind with these Scriptures, you will start to experience the powerful love of Christ.

This can take some time, so be patient, as you discover God's love for you.

Years ago I felt like I did not know the depth of God's love for me, and as I started to discover what God's word said about me, it helped me understand and feel the power of his love. I now know the love of Christ and feel secure in love. I have found it much easier to love others, because I understand what God thinks about me, and therefore I know what he thinks about them.
