Don't get stuck in the mud.

Don’t get stuck in the mud

When I was 12 years old, I was with my family, going on a trip to see some friends. We had a big white van and we were travelling on a dirt road. It had been raining, so the road was very muddy, my dad was driving and as went through a big section of mud, our van got stuck!! We got out of the van to have a look, and sure enough, the back wheels of the van were stuck in the mud. My siblings and I had to push the back of the van, while my dad pressed the accelerator and eventually, the van started to move forward and we got back in the car and drove out of the mud and made it to our destination.

Going on a journey to get healing in your life can sometimes feel messy.

As things come out and we need to process them and forgive, it can take time, there can be some heightened emotions and sometimes it feels like the process is taking a long time.

Its easy sometimes in our lives to get “stuck in the mud”. We can sometimes get stuck on a certain past event, conversation, a trauma, a divorce, a wayward child, unfulfilled dreams, or anything that we haven’t dealt with. If we don’t take the steps we need to do “get out of the mud” its easy to stay in the emotions of the past and not really be living in the present.

Just like the story I shared at the beginning of the chapter, when we have something that happens in our life, and we get “stuck in the mud”, its important to find out the steps we need to take to get the push that we need to get out of the mud and move forward towards our destination.

Are you stuck in the mud in your life at the moment?  Do you feel like you don't know what to do next?

God's word provides us with comfort, guidance and counsel when were are feeling stuck and don't know what to do.

"Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path" Psalm 119:105

I have had many times in my life where I felt stuck and didn't know what to do. I found the best thing was to take some time to reflect on where I was, and ask God to give me his perspective on the situation and what he wants to show me and teach me.

Do you need a push to help you move forward?

There are some healthy steps that we can all take to move forward when we are stuck in our healing journey.

1.      Talking to a trusted friend or counsellor

2.      Plan a trip away for a few days to have a rest and gain some perspective

3.      Read stories of other people who have faced the same problems and find out how they overcame them.

You are not alone in this journey you are on. There is always someone who has gone through something similar, that has come through it and moved on with their lives.

I know when I have had moments where I have felt stuck, one of the best things I did was to talk to some mature friends, who had been through many seasons of life and hearing what they have had faced and overcome really helped to encourage me to push through whatever I was facing, to move on towards my life ahead.

One day you are going to be the one who has a story of triumph and victory and someone will need to hear you testimony and story. The thing that you are facing right now in your healing journey, can be one of your greatest victory stories one day.

There are people counting on you, getting through what you are facing, so that you can give them the “push” that they need to get out of the mud.

The best thing you can do is just to start to move forward, take one step at a time, and keep forgiving, keep loving, keep growing.
